Biergarten and location are really the top even if the place is often crowded. Beer (the dark one is super) in much more better with respect to the food.
Nice beer garden. The food tastes good. It's not cheap but good.
Fast and friendly service The famous monastery dark beer was fantastic as always. Good hygiene concept, even with marked paths. Is certainly necessary when there is a lot going on. Food was rather medium. Roasted dumplings slapped carelessly on the plate, salad simply boring, but prices are steep. But you know that, it was like that 30 years ago.
We visited here Saturday 10th October 2020, we did a 20km circular walk through woodland either side of the Danube to get here and back to Kelheim. However other options would obviously include driving or nicer would be to catch a boat from Kelheim. The Kloster occupies a beautiful location on a bend in the Danube with stunning towering rock cliffs and woodland, it's really beautiful. I understand that at this time the church is closed to visitors owing to COVID-19 and so we just had a beer and some soup at the restaurant and bar within the courtyard. Despite the incessant rain today the seating area was mostly covered and overhead heaters provided some warmth. The beer (we had an Asam Bock and a Hefe-Weisse) was excellent, the potato soup was very nice but served in a tiny bowl which really was a little insulating, we had to request for bread to go with it which was an extra and was served, one slice each, with no butter or margarine. The shop across the courtyard and the kiosk to the side of this outside area were both really tacky, however you could pick up beers, glassware and other beer related merchandise from the latter. In conclusion, fabulous beer and location but let down badly with food and tacky money making opportunities elsewhere.
Despite Corona measures, a smooth process - everyone was friendly - food was okay - beer delicious as always
Mass processing for the tourist who only comes once anyway: pre-cooked food is kept warm for hours. On request it was stated as "freshly made". I've ordered the wrinkled and thinnest schnitzel I've ever had here. All at moon prices, of course
Great beer!
A wonderful excursion. Seldom experienced such quick and friendly service, despite the large number of people. Very good food, served hot. I would recommend making a reservation. Corona conditions implemented very well with the registration counter at the entrance and the packaged cutlery.
VLADIMIR OPAVA was very nice and accommodating, so we were very satisfied. Good location. We will be back. Guaranteed!
Recommended beer garden with delicious food, a good beer and monastery liqueur. Despite the well-attended beer garden and Corona rules, we quickly got a place for 6 people.
Always worth a visit. The location at the Danube breakthrough is breathtakingly beautiful. The beer garden in the inner courtyard is always well attended. A bit of waiting time has to be taken into account, especially on weekends. You get a great atmosphere for that. If you start with the rubber dinghy, then you should definitely ask for the “boat driver half”.
Nice monastery. The monastery tavern, however, was poor. The veal sausages are served lukewarm and in a little musty water. Not even broth. Long had a strange aftertaste. Price / performance ratio very weak. Very very expensive. Beer costs € 4.10. For the money you could survive a long time in many countries. Very touristy, mass processing. Too bad.
Fast and well-organized processing despite the corona queue. Short waiting times. The service at the table is friendly, good and full "on the go". Wheat beer / wheat beer tastes good and is well chilled even at +30 degrees.
Weltenburg Abbey and tavern A meeting point like no other Direct your gaze here You have to achieve this goal! A dream so beautiful The Danube and the Höh'n So tasty the food You mustn't forget that! A beer, so full-bodied delicious Pleases the heart and mind Afterwards you are the "Schecker" Watch what is still in bloom for you! 😅👩🏼💻😄😊👍👏 Today we reached the Weltenburg Abbey by ship. A long line formed in front of the entrance to the courtyard. In retrospect, I am very happy to have stood in line. It went relatively quickly and there was enough space and space. The organization went very well and our waiter made us feel like kings on earth. I can't remember ever having had such a waitress. So friendly and accommodating and happy! I would love to come back for the waiter and the beer! 🤗😄🙈👋
Without a reservation, you have to wait a long time for a free seat and join the long line. However, we had made reservations and were immediately taken to our place in the courtyard. The service was very friendly and quickly brought us the menu. The food came very quickly and tasted good. The beer was not our favorite, but you could drink it very well. The food was delicious and also hot. The cheesecake is awesome
Nice monastery located directly on the Danube. Fortunately we had reserved for the beer garden, otherwise we would have to queue up. We were quickly shown to a table. The food came pretty quickly after ordering. I had a beer and sauerbraten with red cabbage and Selmmelknödel. The service was very friendly
Pure mass tourism. Our meal came three minutes after ordering and was cold. A little more friendliness would be desirable. Overall not recommended.
Dark beer is lovely.
If you have reserved, you will quickly get to a place. The service is very attentive and friendly. Extremely short waiting times. After less than 10 minutes the food was there. Delicious beer and food in the beautiful beer garden.
We really enjoyed a short visit this week. The monastery beer is particularly worth mentioning. The staff went out of their way to enforce the current restrictions without minimizing the comfort. Thanks a lot
There is regional food here that is really really good. The inner courtyard in the monastery is ideal for the beer garden. The staff was very friendly and on the ball.
Most boring food I ever had. Not enough vegetarian options and not even the classic Bavarian Käsespätzle on the menu! Avoid.
Nice bier from the monk's own craft...
Worth a trip! The staff really friendly, prices for food and drinks are reasonable 👍 Great beer garden. In good weather is good going on from noon, could be full. 😎 In terms of plumbing could be a bit better but with so much tourism okay 😉
Worldly prices, but consistently delicious, with friendly staff.
Terrible service. We were a party of 4, all ordered a main. The food was brought to 3 of us. After having waited for 30 mins, we asked the waiter if the rest of the food was coming. The response was that the specific dish was out - could he tell us earlier, without us asking - no - could we get something else instead - sure. After waiting for another 30 minutes we still have not received the food and had to leave. No apology, not even an attempt to make things good. Real f*ck off behavior, obviously enough tourists flocking in. No way we will ever return - don't go into this place, spend your money elsewhere. But if you happen to be out of luck and end up here, specifically avoid tables waited by Csaba, luckily their staff has names on their badges. If I could put a minus rating, I would.
Tourist restaurant with quick service describes it very well. The food came to the table very quickly and the quality was okay, but nothing special. Also priced in the upper segment.
Beautiful setting, delicious food, boat/drive/hike in - your choice. They've been making great beer for almost a thousand years! Yes, 1000!! Try the Bock if you like malty, strong beer, it goes well with the schweinehaxe.
Lovely place.
The location is amazing, the food is great as is the beer. My only real gripe was the pricing of the food. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely a tourist destination and as such I expect higher prices. That being said though the portions were so much smaller than other places we visited, however the quality is quite high. Definitely among the better food we tried in Bavaria and the beer garden is great. Service was exceptional. Definitely is a must see and do while traveling in Germany.
What a beautiful place! Was here in 2013 and would recommend this to everyone! Gabi, the lady running the place, is one of the nicest people I've ever met! She set up my own private tour of the brewery, and got to try fresh doppelbock right out of the fermenter. She then gave me a glass mug, and a free six of dunkels and doppelbock! Can't say enough good things about her and Braumeister Ludwig. The place is very busy, but our needs were met with courtesy and speed. Would love to go back someday...
